The Hammig String Quartet.

Anna Davis and The Hammig String Quartet.
On Tuesday May 10th there will be an Illustrated lecture by Anna Davis on Shostakovich’ s 8th Quartet, with the Hammig String Quartet providing insight, illustration and performance!
Anna Davis is currently a PhD research student in the Department of Theology and Religion at the University of Exeter, working under the supervision of Prof. Tim Gorringe. Her research, which is funded by the AHRC, focuses on the music of Shostakovich, and asks how we might consider his works from a theological perspective. In 2010, Anna was awarded a prize from the Theological Horizons foundation for an essay which examined Shostakovich's Eighth String Quartet in light of Hegel's philosophy of the 'negative'. Aside from theology, Anna is a violinist with the EMG Symphony Orchestra and the Isca chamber ensemble, and also teaches A Level Religious Studies at St. Margaret's School in Exeter.
